Graphic designer, photographer and an avid knitter…

Vanessa was born in Malaysia. As the oldest child of five, she was often encouraged by her parents to explore her interest to the fullest. Vanessa initially aspired to study public relations but her passion for the arts led her to complete her second degree in graphic design. Graduating with a dual degree, training and then working as a graphic designer she often found overlap and opportunity to apply her love for photography into her design work. Vanessa's work has often been described as calming with a hint of elegance. Her minimalistic approach to composition reflects a sense of clarity and peace as evidenced by her first book ‘flow’ a photographic essay on fibers and textures.

Current clients include Blue Bottle Coffee Company, Ceritas Wines, Sanglier Cellar, Heirloom Cafe and Habu Textiles in New York. Other special assignments include landscape photography for the Peay Vineyards, food and portrait shots for Masa's restaurant, photo shoots for cheesemaker Soyoung Scanlan from Andante dairy and portrait work for singer/song writer Natalie White. A number of Vanessa's photos are also featured in Patricia Michelson's new cheese book.

Vanessa's second book, this time with partner Olga Buraya-Kefelian. The new book is titled Ori Ami Knits ori meaning "to fold" and ami which comes from the Japanese word for knitting "amimono". Design, layout and photography by Vanessa. Since its debut Ori Ami Knits has been getting great reviews and it's first print run sold out entirely on preorders.

Aside from graphic/book design, Vanessa is working on a series of traditional black and white prints using her lo-fi Diana camera.

When she's not shooting or knitting, Vanessa likes to cook and enjoy a glass of good wine with her sommelier husband in San Francisco where they currently reside.
